2010 Summer Camps with Olympic and World Champion Mihai Covaliu at LFC |

We are very excited to announce that Mihai Covaliu, Olympic and World Champion will be joining us again this summer for a few weeks of intense training camps. Details about the camps will be posted shortly. Our coach Nick Dinu and Mihai Covaliu have a very long relationship, going back to the first years of Mihai's fencing career, when Nick was his coach back in their native Romania. Mihai will be thrilled to share with our students his unique perspective on international fencing, as well as his insight on training for performance. In 2008, after winning his second Olympic medal in Beijing, Mihai retired from competitive fencing. He is now the head coach of the Romanian National team. His students are the current Men's Sabre World Champions! |

Laguna Fencing Center hosted the 3rd Sabre event of the Southern California Youth Challenge circuit on Sunday, March 7th. It was a good test for our more experienced fencers and an excellent opportunity for our novice fencers to learn and get familiar with the competitive environment. Congratulations to our top 8 finalists: Y10 Mixed Sabre: Mary Barnett - 1st, Jared Smith - 2nd, Jared Pagal - 5th, Zachary Johnson - 7th, Nicholas Dinu - 8th. Y12 Mixed Sabre: Mary Barnett - 2nd, Kyla Obillos - 5th, Jason Smith - 6th, Niall O'Hanlon - 7th. Y14 Mixed Sabre: Mary Barnett - 3rd. Ethan finished 2nd and Elena 3rd in Y12 at the Avant Garde Youth Tournament in Los Angeles over the weekend. Ethan also finished 3rd in Y14. Congratulations! Also this weekend, at the OC Division Open, Spencer M. won the gold and earned his C rating! Good job, Spencer! |
