On Sunday, Laguna Fencing Center hosted the last SoCal Youth Challenge sabre event of the season. In addition to the tournament winners, the end-of-season champions were designated. 
Here are our top 8 finalists: Y10 Mixed Sabre: Mary Barnett - 1st, Jared Smith - 2nd, Jessica Zhuang - 6th, Zachary Johnson - 7th, Tiffany Cevatli - 8th. Y12 Mixed Sabre: Mary Barnett - 1st, Mackenna Lamphere - 2nd, Jayson Smith - 3rd, Kyla Obillos - 7th. Y14 Mixed Sabre: Scott Marquez - 2nd, Mary Barnett - 7th.

We are very proud of Laguna Fencing Center's young competitive fencers who represented USA at the Pan American Championships in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They earned a total of 4 medals: 
Youth 12 women's sabre: Mary Barnett - GOLD and Elena Pearson - SILVER 
Youth 12 men's sabre: Roozbeh Jafarian - BRONZE

It was a busy weekend for our competitive fencers! Mary won her first national title by taking gold in Y10 Women's Sabre at the NAC (North American Cup) in Virginia Beach, VA, earning her E2010 rating in the process. Here is a picture of her and the other finalists at the medal ceremony. Congratulations, Mary! 
Also, here are our top 8 finalists at the youth tournament in San Diego this weekend: Y10 Women's Sabre: Jessica Zhuang - 2nd. Y10 Men's Sabre: Jared Smith - 2nd, Zachary Johnson - 3rd. Y12 Women's Sabre: Jessica Zhuang - 2nd. Y12 Men's Sabre: Jayson Smith - 1st, Jared Smith - 3rd, Zachary Johnson - 6th. Y14 Men's Sabre: Jayson Smith - 3rd.
